Linux on Galaxy enables developers to use Samsung smartphones for all their computing needs, even app development. Linux on Galaxy allows the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphone users to run their preferred Linux distribution on their smartphones utilizing the same Linux kernel that powers the Android OS to ensure the best possible performance.
This is interesting news.
It's not released yet, but you can sign up for the project over here and show interest in it:

https://seap.samsung.com/linux-on-galaxy

Using the Samsung DeX station (using Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+/Note 8), this will be turning your phone, into a PC.

checked it out...
Ubports is more friendly by compare.

Samsung...
what it is doing is about as overtly proprietary as proprietary can get without being absolutely proprietary.

Not interested.
I'll stick with UT

Do you even know what this does?
Have you tried it out yourself yet?

Please don't bash things without knowing the facts

Please notice the facts!

gerbick pointed you to another thread about the exact same topic, in that you actually participated before creating this one.
There I linked an article at pro-linux.de, a small but reputable news website about Linux.
In that article it is clearly stated that another Linux distro is to be run on top of Samsung's host OS, which basically leaves two options on how to implement this:

1. Run a full-fledged VM: This would allow even a true FLOSS system (including guest kernel) to be run inside the VM, regardless of how proprietary the host OS is. However, this comes with a quite large performance penalty, that's basically no option on a smartphone.
2. Don't virtualize the kernel, just set up another user land on top of the existing host kernel. There are different ways to implement this, with different impacts on performance, but not on openess, the lightest one being a plain chroot. Such a system can never be more open than the underlying host kernel, which in Samsungs case is about as overtly proprietary as proprietary can get without being absolutely proprietary.

Edit:
Another article from a reputable german news site. [1] There it is said, that the default Linux distribution is Ubuntu 16.04 with the Mate desktop, which indicates that there is no 3D acceleration inside the Ubuntu environment.

This all fits the general picture of it being a partly virtualization of the Ubuntu userland on top of the Android kernel.
As I said in the other thread, it's based on the same principles like Easy Debian, and it will suffer the same fate, once Samsung stops upgrading the Android kernel.

Only use authorized images provided directly through Linux on DeX. Other versions or unauthorized images may not operate properly.

Linux on DeX currently supports one customized Ubuntu image (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS version provided by Canonical) which only operates on selected Samsung devices. (Note9 and Tab S4).
...which runs only on Samsung DeX....

UT is the literal opposite of what this is...
at it's basest belief it works towards running on other devices beyond corporate competitive interest

To make a specific os release run,
a specific proprietary cable is needed,
which will only work on a specific proprietary device or two..

and yes in the end as it was just mentioned, it will suffer the same fate as ED.

DeX and Samsung have managed a proprietary miracle,
a single lane,
turning into a blind alley,
leading to a brick wall.
