Hello,

I want to run Wi-Fi hotspot on Nokia N900 but when I try to install any hotspot app, it states that I need wireless-tools package. I tried to download every .deb file from here: http://repository.maemo.org/pool/mae...ireless-tools/

but all of them results in message "incompatible package" when trying to install. I have Maemo 5 so I download from that site but it does not work. Could someone tell me where to download wireless-tools from?

Thank you.

I hate when juiceme me thanks of this kind of questions where someone asks for help.

So first question: do you have CSSU http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU installed? I suggest you install the testing version.

After you have installed that, use it a bit and it will soon (maybe next day) inform updates (I do not know why it takes time). Install updates.

Then you should put the devel repository in your Hildon Application Manager (referred in this forum as HAM) which you will find here http://repository.maemo.org/

After that enabled try installing mobile hotspot. But it seems that many use HEN application to set up wireless.

And are you going to need the N900 as your main phone or just something to play with? There is Maemo Leste if you haven't noticed https://maemo-leste.github.io/. It is not ready yet for phone calls and sms but there has been promised an update soon of some progress.

Because if you want to use Maemo 5 as main system then you need to also use tweaks to get gps location to work, to update certs and get imap to work in default mail app. And just for your notice no whatsapp but telegram you can have through pidgin messenger or with telegram-cli as a terminal app. No youtube either except with downloading with youtube-dl for which you need to update certain stuff which may make some other stuff not to work, but that I am not absolutely sure if it breaks anything.

Also you may want to check a thread "Perfect setup for N900" or google "revive N900" which is also in one members signaturew ho has put alot of good stuff of reviving N900.

And there is possibility to overclock the device, take of transition effects and tweak swap usage which all will make the device snappier.

Wellcome to wonderland!

I dont use it as a main phone but I want to take as much out of this phone as possible to use it as normal phone in 2020. I dont have CSSU, should I install it from this tutorial? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMHx...l=topet2k12001

After installing that CSSU, will I be able to install mobile hotspot without any issue? Do I need that HAM manager or is it enough to use built-in application manager?

Thank you.

EDIT: I found out that it is default manager but when I add that repository to manager, it states that it is damaged/broken (just translated from my language for free - dont know how it is stated in english). And I have CSSU installed already too.

I added this to HAM: http://repository.maemo.org/extras/i...mantle.install

But it also states that I need wireless-tools after installing mobile hotspot.

Thank you.

Are you familiar working with terminal? If so do you have a rootsh installed from application manager? After you install rootsh you can open terminal and type sudo gainroot and you hvae root rights.

If you are familiar with using terminal you can navigate to the place where you downloaded the .deb file you tried to install and type dpkg -i and add the name of the .deb file and hit enter. This way it will probably give you information of why you can't install liie missing dependencies.

I will try and let you know. But what is the path to root folder of device? I mean the default folder of internal storage which is opened after connecting to pc.

EDIT: I managed to install wireless-tools by your command and then install mobile hotspot but it states: hotspot failed to start when starting it. Do you know why? Thank you.

Which hotspot did you install? Did you install QT? I suggest not, sorry forgot to mention. Did you try using usb? I normally have used usb. If usb will not work either then I think I am in the end of knowledge to help at the moment. My N900 stopped working well couple of months ago and I have been waiting for Leste updates before setting N900 up again and running. Glad I could be of help this far but sorry not able to help you further. Maybe someone else can help you with HEN setup. Anyone?
