Since the original CSSU thread is getting too long an unwieldy, it is now almost impossible seperate the signal from the noise. I don't know why but the moderators also seem reluctant to start separate forum sections/threads for CSSU. So I am now starting a separate thread for various CSSU related topics, which are of interest to end-users.

CSSU has provided portrait mode as an experimental feature. This can be enabled by changing the value of forcedrotation from 0 to 1 in /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini. D-livil's transition tuner can also be used as a graphical interface for this purpose.

This wiki page gives the status of portrait mode support in various apps. At present all apps do not display correctly in portrait mode. Hence, future updates of CSSU will have rotation based on a WHITELIST. ie, only applications mentioned in the whitelist will rotate, while the rest remains without rotation. Please help us keep the wiki page updated so as to get a comprehensive whitelist for rotation.

To prevent applications from autorotating when not needed (eg., when using MicroB on bed) install status-area-orientationlock-applet from the repositories.

The desktop can be rotated using control+shift+r, but is currently unusable. This rotation can also be seen when OMweather widget is installed.

NOTE FROM THE DEVELOPERS:
Please read the following BEFORE posting:
Other Threads in this Series
The Autorotate Thread
The Email (modest) Thread
The Transitions Thread

Qmlreddit is fully usable
FrontView is fully usable
Mbarcode is fully usable
Qtirreco is semi usable only half of the screen is viewable, considering the narrow fov and location of the ir port port it doesnt really make sense to have a portrait mode
Evernote is semi usable folder contents are cut off
Gonvert is semi usable some text is cut off

It should be noted that the image viewer in full screen works fine in portrait mode if the phone is upside down, earpiece down

its Good to start a separate thread for Cssu rotation...
i use shortcutd to enable and disable rotation with Cam key long press as toggle rotation...
as much as i know all Debbie command applications support rotation and are usable specially "Aqualung,Pcmanfm & Pcmanfm-Search"...
in maemo most of apps rotates and most of them are usable after that like sketch,angry-birds,micro-emulator,E-mail(compose gets Chopped tho),Conversation/Im(cant type coz no portrait keyboard same goes for Notes)...

i have a few suggestions

1)i guess we need a portrait keyboard now...

2) its a bit off topic but cant we make the "menu" icon permanently visible when in application menu "since it becomes difficult to find a blank space to click to navigate back to the Desk"

3) Also if full-desktop-rotation occurs in near future(i hope soon)... then please provide an option to get the complete-menubar(menu clock battery and all) at the bottom left as it would be easy to navigate to menu tasks and everywhere simply by "thumb"... and it would be Original for Maemo too, since in "Android" toolbar is center aligned and its battery clock and status area splits to the top...
this is what i mean..

N900 Portrait Mode Suggestion..

I hope CSSU make it possible... Soon...
All the Best...
thanks...

Thanks to Ejasmudar for starting new CSSU Thread. I vote for full-desktop rotation and portait mode keyboard, though CSSU is in its early stage (special thanks to its developers) however portrait mode have many deficiencies e.g. Icons went out of screen while open media player etc.I hope our developers will soon improve CSSU features in near future.

We have a portrait keyboard: FastSMSEvo. Or if you enable, the virtual keyboard from settings, the original nokia virtual qwerty keyboard can also be used in portrait mode.

Please discuss only matters relating to CSSU and autorotation.

I don't understand this. Could you please make a mock-up of this? Also I this feature requests for CSSU will take time as they're still ironing out the kinks in CSSU now...

But he does have a valid point about usability. Also, why does it have to be on top everywhere else?

If we split the landscape top bar into two- the desktop switcher & status bar on one side and App name/menu and close button on the other side- then we can have the right side of the bar still on top in portrait mode, and the left side on bottom as he showed. Then we can have a uniform behavior all through portrait mode.

But more importantly, CAN it be done? I dont think the CSSU team will be able to mod the statusbar like we want.

oh, the irony, just tried starting a thread on my thoughts on portrait mode

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...136#post970136

but more about how the phone enters into it, citing Microb as an amazing application.
also harped on we need a way to determine sensitivity of the rotation, in other words, that it's too difficult to keep phone orientated how you like when it seems to always want to jump to other orientation without much reason

eh i dunno, as long as it's an option.
plus having half a bar on top and the other half on the bottom would steal ~40 pixels of space from us? many appswouldn't like that
