For that purpose we have created mer-chatter mailing list - the idea is that it is a high volume list, primarily with brief but direct information in Subject (like on Jaiku/Twitter), and if needed, elaboration in the body of the mail.
You can sign up for the list on https://garage.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/mer-chatter - the default is digest, as that's probably the nicest way to receive. Atom feed can be found at http://n2.nabble.com/Mer-Chatter-f2732813.xml as well. Please note that this is NOT a support list, but a place to render your Mer activities visible to others within the team and people outside.
We will also be rendering our activities visible through IRC, as we will try to create a practice of posting directly from IRC to the mer-chatter list - examples which already can be seen in the archives at https://garage.maemo.org/pipermail/mer-chatter/
For Mer team members I haven't reached yet through e-mail, see http://wiki.maemo.org/Mer/Awareness on how to post to mer-chatter on IRC and practices and why we try to do things this way.
As you go on to other communities, remember to build them around politeness, respect, trust and humility. Be wary of poisonous people and deal with them before they end up killing your community.. Seen it happen to too many IRC channels, forums, open source projects.
