Does kopete work with gtalk or whatever that google chat is called? Can't seem to get it to connect. I put in the settings according to google's site but it says that kopete cannot support ssl or something.

What do you guys use? The built in chat doesnt play well w/ kde due to the lack of system tray so the contact list dissappears.

I want to say I could not get it working either, but its been a while. The contact list can be opened and left open on a desktop, I know its not much of a fix?

I Will play around see if I can get it working

I played around with it a while back... never got it working.

kopete needs a plugin to handle secure jabber accounts (which is what Gtalk is)

But I don't think we've got the required plugin compiled for armel, although I'm guessing it wouldn't be too difficult?

kopete works fine with gtalk. Look at this, by example: http://www.google.com/support/talk/b...n&answer=57557

I remember now, sometimes I need to just jog my head a little??

IT does NOT work on my build.

SSL support could not be initialized for account XXXXX@XXX This is most likely because the QCA TLS plugin is not intalled on your system

I had tried to fix this but was unable to, sorry.

You can run pidgin from KDE and use gtalk. If you are using gtalk in maemo (ie your account is setup and running) Any call or text being sent to you will pop up in KDE. Unless you are using the "boot to kde" deb, then these services are not started on boot. Then like I said just run contacts from the hildon menu, you can even drag it to the desktop and rename the shortcut.

If you try pidgin, be sure to also install the XMPP plugin, so you can use gtalk

I really wish pidgin would give me a deb to install everything, this one at a time 15 debs is crazy

Also if you use pidgin, it will use the KDE toolbar icon just like kopete.
There is no icon, but you can create a desktop shortcut. I just opened konsole as user and typed pidgin.

Does pidgin use the gtalk contact list like chat in maemo? How difficult would it be to complile a version of pidgin that works for KDE but not hildonized?... lol kinda retrograde version so that it would look and work exactly like kopete.

I loaded it today, it seemed to work good, did you try it? My wife showed up in the contact list,so but I don't think you could do video chat?

Would it be possible to start a bare KDE install with just the apps required for functionality on an N800? I wish I knew where to start but I'd be willing to host a server for the files. It would be nice to start from a scratch KDE and build it up with apps that are wanted with the package manager in KDE.

Any thoughts on something like this? If it would be at all possible please feel free to PM me and I'll get to work on building the website. (Maybe FTP etc). I don't have the fastest connection on the planet, but 2mbit is a start.

Thanks.

Plus it would be a little bit more easy to install updates to things like Kopete or adding a QCA TLS plugin (is this actually missing from KDE itself or from the Kopete build?)
