I was just browsing through the release notes for the Kubuntu Maverick Meerkat release candidate and was surprised to see that there is a Mobile Tech Preview version available. That section specifically mentions N900 by name...

I couldn't see any threads here on t.m.o. specifically referring to kubuntu on N900. So, whose pet project is this? Also, share your experience with it if you're brave enough to try it.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

looks like there already is a ARM version:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu-mo...ases/10.10/rc/
It will probably run on THE N900

Very interesting
This would be extremely awesome...
(I'm Kubuntu fan, )
Not intended to replace Maemo, though.

The screen tearing in this video gave me tears in my eyes. Literally. I don't see many features demoed either. So this doesn't seem like a viable, serious project. If they can't even have the font sizes and fonts attractive in a screenshot they're using (this one) I'm not holding my breath. So yeah, technology preview pur sang, might be saying something about MeeGo and other Qt-based OSes, but nothing seriously usable on a production device by any long shot.

Interesting indeed, I'll try it out but it probably needs thumb support in the CPU (which the N900 has disabled due to making it unstable)
