One could say it could not get any easier by selecting the most basic feature of photography, light entering through a lense and being digitized by any kind of sensor as topic.
On the other hand, photos like fellfroschs dice with cool shadow play, nh1402s fully lighted postcard or Macros nightscene towers could be compared on a level not restricted by the subject of the picture but the photographers skill to present it.

Wish you all a steady hand for Mays theme: Lighting

Rules are as usual :
  • Photos must be taken during this month (after theme is announced) and posted before voting starts
  • Photos must be taken by the posting member
  • Photos must be taken with a camera phone

  • Users can change the entry only once
  • Users must name the phone they used (and software if not stock)
  • Post processing is allowed but you have to say what you did
  • 3 days voting period starts on May 28th at 20:00 UTC and ends on the evening of May 31st

My first thought was That What? - Lightning? - This time of the year? - before I realized...

Maybe I should go to an optician or back to school to learn to read.

Either I need to see one as well or...

My first thought was: camera of a mobile phone - focus time vs. lightning speed? Ouch

Just in case someone doesn't know:

With many phones you can also press and hold the shutter icon to lock focus and release in the moment you want to capture.

With them being phones you need good lighting of course and even which a good camera you would be to slow for lightning, but it served me well enough to capture a marble in a loop.

Lightning would certainly be an exciting phenomenon to photograph! It's the perfect time of year for me: Tornado Season! Of course there are the issues of how to trigger the shutter in time. And personal safety . . .

Lighting, on the other hand, requires a little more patience in setup and a little less risk I think. I had a pretty neat opportunity recently with a fantastic glowing sunset reflected on a wet road but I only made a quick snap of it (and of course it's not eligible due to timing).

Nevertheless, I'm pretty excited about the topic and am eager to find a subject.

Ed. Holy crap! Here's some guy* who got several examples of Lighting and Lightning in one photo yesterday! Too bad he's (presumably) not a TMO member Also not enough exif info preserved to tell if it was taken with a phone.

*Travis Maxwell, who I do not know, but props, man!

WOW!

I don't think Mr. Maxwell took that with camera? If, then wow²

Sorry little more OT but i took these two myself; first by N9 and second by Canon SX10IS (+software):

First one is from 2015 when storm was coming and 10 seconds later was dark as night... Second is from 2010 when one july night was hard lightning-storm...

Far stretched the definition of lighting, to the light being reflected from water surface and creating reflection.

iPhone X, Ztylus Revolver Polarizing filter, and small touch on brightness and color on builtin app

P.S. just a cool pic that I want to share.
