I saw a post about Maemo Recorder so wanted to give it a try. It was available in the applications list so I installed it and it installed fine. First I tried recording in iLBC format with the save to a new folder on the SD card. It didn't work and it was loud noise on playback. I then tried PCM and it recorded ok. I deleted all files from that (newly created folder to save recordings) folder and again tried the wav format. It recorded fine. I exited Maemo recorder, deleted all files from this new folder and went back to Maemo recorder and tried again.

This time, there was no sound on playback. I tried different formats and NO luck. I tried Skype call recording service that plays back your voice and now it doesn't work either. It was working fine before as I had tried it a couple of days ago. I tried muting and unmuting in Skype but no luck. I uninstalled Maemo recorder and the microphone is still not working. I rebooted the device and still no luck.

I don't see an option for microphone in the control panel. How to re-enable my N800 microphone??

But there is another thread started today, so you might want to follow it too.

I installed Maemo Recorder on seeing the thread that you mentioned to help the poster. But in my case Maemo Recorder somehow got the microphone disabled altogether! And I don't see any place to configure the microphone.

My microphone is back. I don't know why it worked but here is how it started working again. I was searching for some kind of mixer application on N800 and didn't find any. I also found out that Maemo Recorder uses Gstreamer. So I decided to just look around what was on the device and I opened Xterminal and went around with steps like these
$ amixer
(said not found)
$ alsamixer
(said not found again)
$ cd /
$ cd dev
$ ls -l
$ cd dsptask
$ ls
$ ls -l
$ exit

And tried Skype again. And the microphone was working again!! I tried Maemo recorder again. It worked the first time. Then I exited out of Maemo Recorder and tried Maemo Recorder again. The microphone was gone again. No more microphone in Skype or Google talk or Maemo Recorder. I then tried the commands listed above again and the microphone was working again. I am not sure what happens by just going to Xterminal and browsing around but microphone comes back. So I just went and uninstalled Maemo Recorder and things are back to normal again. The microphone works in both Skype and Google talk again!! No more Maemo Recorder for me :-(
