I am getting really anxious to get my firmware updated so "maybe" I can use my SDHC 8 Gig memory cards, etc.
I am stuck as reflected in my other email since I can't get the Windows Wizard to work to update my N800. Is there any other way I can get the firmware into the device. As stated in the other message, I get my device recognized, USB working, but something that says:
Authentication failed...because your Windows clock is not on time. See Windows Help and Support .....

And to make this even more fun, when I try to "synchronize my computer clock with time.windows.com, it says: "The Peer in Unreachable" Arghhhh! again. I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advance.

Talk about your crazy situations, I scoured the net on the clock thing and found that time.windows.com was broken for three weeks back in April and since I can't access it now, suspect it is broken again?, so if I can't synchronize my computer clock to get the download to work (now that all the other little encumbrences have been removed), that sort of leaves me stuck at this point.

I've never actually heard of this problem before.

Can you write down the error message word for word?

Set the date and time in the bios. I've had window update fail for that reason. Setting the date and time in bios fixed it. Windows is weird some times.

SEARCH! It's probably already been answered.

Did the Nokia Software Update Wizard start at all, or did it start but failed to load latest firmware from the Internet? If the latter you might try to download the firmware manually (link should be on Nokia web site... look for flashing with Linux...). When starting the wizard you can select to flash the firmware from file.

I have not heard of this incorrect clock issue either... My PC clock is certainly couple minutes off and I never had a problem... Maybe your PC clock is completely off? Such as one year ahead/behind...

I don't think non-programmers would want to do this...

To do this you may have to press a particular key when you first start the PC.

Make sure the monitor is on before you switch on the PC, switch on your PC, then you should see an option for accessing BIOS settings somewhere on the screen. It's normally something like F1 or F2.

OK, I have downloaded the .bin file (firware update onto my C drive), but can't figure out how to "flash"?? the firmware from file.
The Wizard doesn't seem to have any choices here but to drive headlong smack into the authentication issue with the clock. In my other thread, I pretty much copied the messages I get word for word, but I can fill in the ... parts if you all think that would be helpful. Oh, and I get really scared when someone tells me to save the date and time in the bios??? not sure how to do that and with seconds ticking away, how can I be sure I have the exact right time? My windows clock as I type this says October 10, 2007 2:45 PM

I encountered this the other day, when tried to flash on friend's windows box. The time was sync'd, but the error persisted. But then I pressed Back, then again Next and voalia. No error. Flashed (From file) with no problems. Then, just for the experiment I started the wizard again. The same error about time. Back, Next and it worked again. Strange, isn't it

I would strongly advise you to stick to the wizard.

Have you tried setting the clock in the BIOS yet?

You don't need to have the exact time, just set the time as best you can.

Try doing that, then try the wizard again, then tell us what happens.

OK, I am getting really, really happy here! I never could do the bios thing, kept screen on, rebooted (restart), no screen giving me option of F1 or F2, so I decided to completely shut down the computer (not restart), then rebooted and again no opportunity to do the Bios thing, so instead I tried the Wizard again and lo and behold, it slickered right on through and is downloading (at my other computer) as I type this! Not sure what the problem was but appreciate all the hand-holding, it must have been all those magic vibes from all of you that got the darned thing unstuck!!!
I'll be back as I try to figure out and get the most out of this N800, I am really, really hoping those SDHC memory cards work, I have not yet told my husband that I bought them and they didn't work. Maybe I won't have to!
