Ok, I think I have version 0.3.3. which I think is the latest version. I downloaded vpnc-gui and it works somewhat, but it keeps disconnecting from my college's network sporadically. Is there a reason why it does this? Does it need to be developed further?

Also, what does OpenVPN do really? In my situation, I need a VPN client to connect to my school's Cisco VPN network. I know VPNC-GUI accomplishes this, with problems, but does OpenVPN apply here as well? I heard some people talking about using VPN clients on the n800 to bypass their school's firewall and connect to their PC at home. Is this possible? Could I use OpenVPN or VPNC to do that, connect on my school's wifi and then connect to my home network so I can have better internet?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. I am a complete Linux ****** so everything that I researched for on OpenVPN sounded equivocal and alien to me, thanks for the help!

I think vpnc goes with Cisco VPNs (which protocol is proprietary or what?) and OpenVPN uses SSL/TLS... for IPSec i think we're out of luck. Another solution i found but didn't verify yet is ssh+ppp:

i wish someone would port freeS/Wan over
