Would it be very much work to cross-compile Super Tux Kart for the N770? The interface is directional keys and a couple of buttons, so the N770 would be perfect for it. I'm inspired by whoever did Tux Paint, which is unbelievably cool.

My son is addicted to Super Tux Kart and Extreme Tux Racer on my Ubuntu box, so I was wondering how much work it would be to get them to work on the Nokia. Would it only be a straight cross-compile with some minor interface changes or would there be a lot more? I'd work on it myself if I can find more time and it isn't too hard to set up a cross-compiler.

I've been looking into this. Super Tux Kart has just switch to using irrlicht for its 3D engine. At the moment irrlicht only supports the full OpenGL spec. There is an OpenGLES 1.x port in development but it hasn't made the release version yet and anyway, the N900 uses OpenGLES 2.0 which is not backwards compatible.

There are some projects to implement OpenGL on top of OpenGLES but they are very alpha at the moment. So in the short term, the answer is no.

Isn't one of the changes of today's firmware update support for OpenGL 1.1?

Its OpenGLES 1.1. Actually support has been there always, but was made "official" now by installing the support by default.

I would love to see this on the N900, using the accelerometer as a control, would be fun, and impressive.
