What do you think of Kagu Media Player's new scroll bars? They're available as of 1.0.9 and you can enable them from the Menu (scroll down to see the option).

Feel free to make comments and suggestions here regarding the scroll bars. Thanks!

BTW, here is a quick screen shot of the scroll bar being used in the song position/seek view:

Love the scroll bars. Much easier and more precise to use than dragging one's finger. Also, now being able to label and save playlists is a great way for segregating chapters of audio books.

i was going to vote for option #4, but seeing how everybody likes them I voted for option #3. they overlap with the items in the scroll area and that looks bad. especially with the right-hand cd-icon on the bigger items. doesn't look good.

my opinion is, they should be thin. really thin. if you can't/don't want to flick your finger to kinetic-scroll, use your fingernail to move the thin scrollbar :P i don't think finger-friendliness is necessary there, just takes too much space no matter what you do.

I saw a scroll bar in an example screenshot of another media player for maemo recently. Here's the thread:

And here's the screenshot:

I'm guessing that's the sort of scroll bar you'd like to see, disq?
Anyone else prefer that? I don't think they look too bad, personally, but saving space could be a good thing....

I prefer the present scroll bar. The thinner one would require a more "precise" placement and use of the stylus. And I like the "boldness" of the new one's appearance, which for me doesn't get in the way of anything vital.

We could probably pad the clickable area on a thinner bar so you don't need to be so precise.

What concerns me is that we might lose or limit the usability of the UP/Down buttons on the scrollbar. I think those are useful if you don't use the dpad much.

yep trev, i'd like something like that. if it's that's too thin for other users it could be a little more bigger on the handle.

just takes too much space if it's fully thumb friendly. nobody has fingernails now? (also, remember that iphone has to be all-thumb friendly because their touchscreen doesn't work with nails)

What's with the iphone reference? I've only used one once, but I know they don't have scroll bars. Only status indicators. And the status indicators don't make much sense to me.

disc, trev:

I really like the scroll bar as it is, especially for the song position it gives immediate feedback on the total lenght of the playing track. sliding it down to, letīs say, 5 minutes, is much faster than repeatedly dragging the kinetic list. If its a little bit thinner, OK, but not much, I also do not need a handle. It does not come in the way of any other visuals on my N800.

just my 2 cents,
karl.
