Based on the price drops, it seems like the N800 has approached end-of-life status. But I've noticed a lot of comments here that the N810, at $479, is too expensive for some to consider, myself included. So I wonder if Nokia will continue to produce the N800, but ship it with the new OS2008. For those of us who can forgo the GPS and slide-out keyboard, that would be a great option at a far more accessible price.

Sadly, I think they will not, and they may lose out of potential buyers once the stock of N800s at the $250 or less price disappears. (Who know how much N800 stock is still out there....there are still some places that have new 770s for sale [walmart.com, believe it or not!]

If they stop N800 support, then N800 was the last device, which I bought from nokia.

I think I should clarify-- perhaps I am using a term that has more specific meaning then I intended. By 'end of life', I just meant that they seem to be in the process of getting rid of their existing retail stock. *Not* that they are stopping supporting it. I think it is clear that they are not only supporting it but improving it greatly, with OS2008.

I just wondered if Nokia will continue to produce a model without the slideout keyboard and GPS module and sell them at a lower price than the N810.

If they just changed the production line a tiny little bit and came out with an N801 (or N805) with the screen replaced with that transflective screen of the N810, I would buy me a new one and give the old N800 to my nephew.

I totally agree with this sentiment. I'm trying to decide between the 800 and 810, and while I'd prefer the GPS and keyboard, I'd also love the FM tuner and the full-SD support and much cheaper price of the 800. The biggest sticking point is the transflective screen.

N800 is still #1 or #2 in Amazon's Computers & PC Hardware category. If I were Nokia, I would sell both at different price points.

Isn't that what they are already doing?

I haven't seen anything to suggest that N800 is end of line, simply that they are selling the N800 on a cheaper price point (which is pretty standard for most Nokia products to reduce in price after a time in the market).

I haven't seen anything to support this, either. I'd presume they will continue to produce and support the N800. It's nothing more than yet another venue for people to discover Maemo and the convenience of an Internet Tablet.

If this whole internet tablet project is getting more N-series like w.r.t. products, then I would expect both devices to continue to be in production. And maybe even more devices later.

This is pure guesswork from my side of course.

If not for the N810, my best guess would be that CES 2008 in January would bring out a new tablet. However, now that the N810 is coming, and with generally the same hardware as the N800, I would say Nokia would not release a faster tablet for at least another 6 months.

ThoughtFix ought to be able to answer this better, though.
