How do I add a link to FM radio in my 'extras' folder?

Keep in mine that I've had mine less than a day so my help may be "dubious" at best. <g> Click on Home at the top left of the main screen and then Select Applets. Check FM Radio. Try that.

The above will put FM radio on your desktop, but not in your extra's folder. I thought the package put it in the extras folder, but I see that mine isn't there either.

I would suggest copying the 'desktop' file from /usr/share/applications/hildon/fmradio.desktop

to the directory: /etc/others-menu/extra_applications/

Hopefully that will do the trick.

[edit: hmm, looks like there is more to it that this...]

hmmm....

I'm currently accessing FM Radio via the xterm shell. Is there a way to just create a symbolic link from the Menu to the FM Radio bin?

I havent used linux in years, so my memory is rusty...

The menu system is a little more complex than that. Which is why I thought the .desktop file would do the trick. But I tried it on my N800, and it doesn't work (I even restarted it). I'll have to do some more research on how maemo/gnome deals with menu's.

Or perhaps someone else who knows more will lend us their wisdom.

I think a restart does the same thing, but did you try (in xterm) update-desktop-database? I have been messing with the .desktop files and the defaults.list file trying to get mplayer to take over for media player for avi files and every time I change something I have to update it. It changed the name of Mplayer in the menu system when I created the mplayer.desktop in usr/share/applications (it showed up as Media Player, which is what I named it as in the mplayer.desktop file, but still in the extras menu) and an update-desktop-database made it show up.

just my $.02

Hmmm...

All this is new to me - especially the "update-desktop-database" command.

tobiasj, did you copy the MPlayer.desktop file into your '/etc/others-menu/extra_applications/' in order to get MPlayer to show up in your menu?

I think I'm even more confused now hehe...
