Why not just download and try, it's not like it'll cost you money.. there's a repository and everything, so it's just a click in the application manager.

Hopefully better than the built in client., I tried Gmail IMAP with it over the weekend and it KILLLED my internal mail client and regularly spiked the battery. After killing my battery yesterday I went back to POP

I tried yesterday, and so far I can SEND email but my folder list does not updates and can't retrieve the mail. On the other hand, my .mac IMAP account is working flawlessly and it's folders are in sync.

If anybody has been able to configure the OUTBOUND servers, please post the config details.

Here's my setup in Claws 3.0.2 Account Preferences

Basic :
Protocol IMAP
receiving : imap.gmail.com
SMTP : smtp.gmail.com

Receive :
IMAP4
Authentication method : Automatic
all boxes checked below

Send :
Authentication
SMTP AUTH checked
Method : LOGIN
gmail username and password

SSL
Use SSL for IMAP4 connection
Send : Use STARTTLS command
Use non blocking checked

Advanced :
SMTP Port 587
IMAP4 Port : 993
nothing else checked.

With these settings I'm able to send and receive mail from my IMAP Gmail account. Every so often I'll have to open a message twice before it will fetch from the server. Has anyone come up with a way to implement a 'move to' button to emulate moving a mail to the all mail folder in GMail. Sort of an archive button? I can click hold and drag a message to the all mail folder, but a button would be nice.

Be aware that gmail's IMAP implementation is pretty shaky at present. The forthcoming version of Claws Mail, 3.1.0, should work a little better with gmail's IMAP, and will provide more meaningful error msgs at least. But, there are standards and, it seems, gmail does not adhere to them too strictly.

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS
smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
