Trying to practice with my N800 and when I try to send an email to my aol account I get the message "unable to send: Message stored in outbox waiting to be sent. I have claw mail on my N800/ I don't know if the settings are right or not. I don't know where to check or what the settings should be. Can anyone please help.

One more thing to help you understand my issue. The message when I open my outbox is"

SMTP authentication failed. Check user name and password or that you have access to smtp.googlemail.com

Hope this helps.

If you are trying to set up e-mail for use with your AOL e-mail account then you will have to use the server settings for that AOL account. It sounds as though you have some googlemail.com settings in there right now.

A google search for "AOL email settings" gives this page with the IMAP and SMTP server information:

http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/

You'll need to use this information (including the port numbers given) in your settings.

I was going to say, "even if you were trying to access "GoogleMail" it would fail anyways. Its GMail isn't it?"
But as soon as I typed it GoogleMail.com routes you directly to GMail.com- so I was wrong again. HAHA

I thought I could open the email program and type in my aol email and send a test email . I followed the tutorial and sent up for gmail I use that email when I am traveling. My problem is when I send a message to anyone no matter what ip they have I can't do it. I would just like to be able to send email from my N800. I have claw mail installed but don't have a clue as to how it works.

Well you can only send e-mail out once you have set up a working SMTP server configuration. I'm not sure what tutorial you followed, but the error message your getting is your best clue:

"Check user name and password or that you have access to smtp.googlemail.com"

First I'd double check that you have your correct *gmail* username/password. With gmail your username is actually your full gmail e-mail address.

If that still doesn't work then just carefully follow this:

Moonshine, I followed that email tutorial and it works fine. If someone sends me mail to that address I get it on my N800. It's when I send out an email that I get the error messages and it won't send out my email.

Shouldn't I be able to send anyone an email from my 800? Where do I go to look for the settings? What should the settings be to allow me to send email?

Thank you for your patience.

The error is unrelated to the destination mail service. In other words, you will not be able to send email to anyone until you reconfigure the email program.

Instructions for configuring Gmail's SMTP (outbound) server settings are here...

(in the United Kingdom "Gmail" is called "Googlemail" because of a trademark conflict.)

If you can receive email but cannot send email it just means that your settings for receiving email have been correctly configured but that your settings for sending email are incorrect.

The instructions in this post worked well for me.
Compare them carefully against your own settings and see if there are any differences.
Good luck.

Fionn, thanks for they reply. I am totally new to the N800 and having a hard time knowing where to look for settings. I printed out the page you directed me to and now I just need to know how to access that information. I don't know where to look on the 800 for it.

Thanks again.
