I now have my email set up so I can send and receive emails.

My questions: Can the gmail be opened in the nokia 800 with out going to the web to get your email? I could just open a browser window and put in the webpage and get my mail.

Second Question: This morning I was at Panera's having coffee so I could try out their wifi and my N800 and see if I could send out some emails and they were all returned. What is the reason for this and how can I correct it?

Third Question: on the front of my nokia there is a blue light blinking on and off what is this and how do you turn it off?

Thanks once again to helping.

Google now offers IMAP so that may work offline...not sure. As far as the blinking, open tools->control panel->display. That has a check box for LED.

Jeff, Thanks for the reply. I turned off the blinking blue light.

Regarding the email question. Panera's is a cafe and they have free wifi for customers. My N800 picked up the connection without a problem. I wanted to try to send some emails I sent them and they all were returned. Any clue as to what would cause that?

I'm going back to Panera's tomorrow to try again.

Ferjant, I followed those instructions and my mail works fine when I am at home. I was at a cafe that has wifi and tried to send a couple of emails. It wouldn's send the emails they were bounced. I don't understand what happens.

I am at home now and I can send messages from my aol account to my gmail account and that works fine. It's when I am out of the house that it didn't allow me to send the emails.

I plan to use the N800 when I am traveling and I want to have the problems worked out before I try to use it away from home. I don't want to bring a laptop.

Thanks for taking the time to read my email.

sja68:

My first guess would be that while you are in the internet cafe's wireless, you are not in your ISP's smtp-server's domain, and therefore you are being rejected by your ISP as a spammer.

Solution: In your email program, set smtp.gmail.com as your outgoing mail server. Then, you will be valid, no matter where you are...

The reason it was denied should be given in the piece of mail that was returned to you. So take a careful look at one of the returned pieces and see what it says.

Deeteroderdas, The smtp.googlemail.com is the outgoing mail server.

Moonshine, I deleted the return emails. I will check again tomorrow when I go again to the cafe and try to email. I will post the message tomorrow.

After working on my n800 yesterday I have so it loads my aol mail. I can open it up and read my mail. Here is the problem for today.

I went back to panera's cafe today and when I tried to open my mail it only put the header not the body of the email. I also couldn't delete some of the mail. First when I open the email it just keeps saying at the bottom connecting but it never does. the other message I get is:

Error in socek operation. If using ssl encryped mail disable ssl and try again. Can anyone help with this?

I also have gmail on my 800 but it's not the default. Do I need to make any changes?

I tried to open a webpage and that worked fine. I could open the NY times website with out any problems.

Thank you.
