I run Win Mobile 6 on an xv6700 and pair it with my N800 no problem. My version is not original however. As created WM 6 should support pairing, DUN, serial, and a bunch of other servcies, but I know the carriers often "customize" there OS packages to "enhance" the user experience. The HTC touch is relatively new, so I do not know the state of the hacker community, but I would guess that BT dun will be available soon if it isn't native or already hacked. I thank the hacker community all the time for their hard work. As to whether Sprint will charge extra, I think they will if they know about it. PAnet is supposed to mask the tethered data connection, but i think it works in conjunction with active sync (not available on the Nokia Tablet. Sprint's literature seems to indicate that they have a fairly open approach to using their data service (opposed to verizon, who I have, and who are begrudging despite having the highest data service cost) Rant over. I think you'd be pretty safe assuming you could come up with a solution on the Touch, but that's not a guarantee.

I don't know about the HTC Touch, but with the Motorola Q, you can use PDAnet with the N800 as long as you turn on the "Bluetooth DUN" setting in PDAnet; you have to turn it on every time you reboot your phone. It's slightly annoying, but not a huge deal.

You need to use the Windows version of PDAnet with Activesync to activate your copy, too.

IndianGuy,

I have an HTC Touch...

TravelFeet is on the right path there: In all Sprint phones running Windows Mobile 6, the Bluetooth dial-up networking (DUN) profile has been removed (or at least disabled), so "out of the box" there's no way to connect an N800 to your touch.

Now, if you run PDANet (http://www.junefabrics.com/pdanet/index.php, $34 but you can try it out for free) you can tell it to enable the DUN profile; after that you will be able to connect the N800 to the Touch.

I've done all this and it does work, although it's definitely not the world's most reliable connection. The N800 will ocassionally fail to make the connection and I've also had PDANet running on the Touch freeze; PDANet will also sometimes leave the phone in an odd state where Internet Explorer on the phone itself will no longer connect! (Both of these problems are fixed by pressing the reset button on your Touch.) These annoyances generally occur at the initial connection -- once you get one complete web page transferred over the connection, it's usually pretty solid.

Remember that if you're doing this without a Sprint "phone as modem" plan, Sprint maintains you're in violation of your contract. If you're just occasionally checking your e-mail or whatever this is not a problem, but Sprint *does* monitor how much data you transfer and if it's blatantly obvious that you're sucking down so much data you most likely are tethered, they'll send you a letter telling you they're cancelling the "unlimited Power Vision for $15" part of your contract and you'll be a pretty unhappy camper! (You'll then be paying the "casual" Vision rate where $15 buys you maybe a few tens of megabytes...)

I've never heard anyone quote an "official" trigger point at which Sprint will investigate, but the rumors are that it's in the ballpark of some hundreds of megabytes per month.

Before the Touch I had a PPC-6700... it runs Windows Mobile 5 and comes with the DUN (and SPP) profiles turned on; getting an N800 tethered to it requires none of these shananigans.

Hi,
sorry if I pull this one off the grave, but I have the same problem.
I Have a HTC Touch and a N800 @ OS2008.
I can pair the N800 with the Touch, thanks to PDANet(with DUN enabled), but I always get a message when I connect "Connection to Internet failed! Do you want to try again?".
I use the same profile as I used before with my nokia n70 mobile.
Any traps I had overseen?
