Just curious - can the document be rotated so you can read in portrait orientation? I'm also planning to do a lot of ebook reading and this seems like a better way to use all the screen real estate.

(I don't need to see a video - a "yes/no" is fine.

No document rotation that I'm aware of, not in the PDF reader app that comes with the device anyways. Turning the device to the side does not change the screen orientation.

Open, page navigation, zoom and a quick button to toggle the display of images on/off are all the features of this PDF reader.

There may be an application some one out there has made that will allow to change the whole screens' orientation but I do not know of one.

Honestly, you'd be better off just extracting to txt/rtf/html. Not that PDFs work badly, they're just nowhere near as easy and fun to use as normal text formats. You'll get better performance and about infinite formating options with FBReader (including screen rotation). I suppose you're probably stuck with the encrypted stuff, but avoiding PDF is a good plan for the future.

Good advice - everything I've heard about FBReader makes me think that is what I'll use. I don't have any encrypted PDFs so perhaps I'll just set up a batch job and extract everything to a new folder as HTML. I guess that would be the best format to retain sufficient formatting...

Any recommendations on pdf to html conversion?

I've had a 770 for a while and I'm about to go for the N810.
I was really disappointed with the PDF performance on the 770.

Does the 810 handle PDFs with graphics? Like books and magazines?
The PDF in your video seems just text.

My 770 would take about 20 minutes just to open anything with heavy graphics and then once you tried to scroll it went into a coma.
