Hi all,

I know that the linux kernel for the n800 is stripped down. I'm trying to figure out how to add commands to the kernel like "cal" for calendar or options for "date". These are very useful when trying to get a date in the past or future, especially when there is no wi-fi for internet access.

Also, are these only available to the bash terminal?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

trox

You can try to find binaries of those programs and install them, set up scratchbox and compile them from source, or wait for someone else to compile and make them available.

cal is part of util-linux-ng, source here:
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils...inux-ng/v2.13/

and a non stripped down version of date is available as part of coreutils:
http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/

If you're comfortable compiling things, I'd set up scratchbox, that way you can get just about any console app working without too much difficulty.

Most commands should work in any shell or terminal app you run.

The Linux kernel isn't stripped down, it's full-featured. What's stripped down is the command set of the operating system (not the kernel).

Anyway, here's a version of bsdutils for OS2007, it has the 'cal' command, and a few others (e.g. col, hexdump). I've only checked that cal and hexdump works as expected.

'date' isn't there though (it's on another package which I haven't looked at yet).

bsdutils is very small, so I'm attaching the .deb here. I'll also put it at my box.net account in a short while (http://www.box.net/shared/zaj5id7dau)
