Warning: intense sarcasm & mixed messages below

-Buy a Micro-to-MiniSD adapter. Leave the MiniSD adapter in the N810, permanently. Your N810 now has a MicroSD slot. Enjoy!
-Only use the N810 with the thumboard revealed. Now the d-pad is always available. The thumboard is not a hidden and optional feature. Rather, the screen slides over it to make the unit more compact for storage.
-Do not attempt to write your novel or doctoral thesis using the thumboard. That is why you carry a bluetooth keyboard around. Too bad the thumboard is also useless for short emails, IMs, blogging, Jaikus, forum comments, IRC, entering login and shipping info, URLs, etc. Nokia must have known this, however, and gave you the option of using the trusty on-screen keyboard...
-Good thing Nokia also included a cleaning cloth with your shiny new N810. Don't forget to pay extra attention to the edges & corners of the screen! And don't be disappointed that the finger keyboard takes up the whole screen. That is a tradeoff for using the superior input method. Well, that and no tactile feedback.
-Don't be concerned with the poor GPS performance or lackluster mapping application. This will certainly be fixed in the coming months, just like every other product that was released unfinished in order to capitalize on the holiday buying season.

Bottom line is that I choose to take it over the 800 everywhere I go. That means despite its flaws I see it as an overall step forward.

Can you please provide more information about this. As a future n810 owner I am interested in your experience. I fully expect to NOT use my BT Keyboard when I get a n810, furthermore I intend to use it for all the things you say I can not do.

So this is my question,

You say "the thumboard is also useless for short emails, IMs, blogging, Jaikus, forum comments, IRC, entering login and shipping info, URLs, etc." What can it be used for, and why is it useless. Can you describe the actual problem you are having?

Most of the original post was sarcasm. The mixed messages part is that I truly enjoy the hardware thumboard and despise on-screen keyboards. I believe anyone who has to compare their bluetooth keyboard to the thumboard has missed the point completely, which is that the thumboard provides convenience for light texting and complete hardware integration & portability.

If one examines those uses, s/he will realize that all those examples are in fact what the hardware thumboard is perfectly suited to. The sarcasm was meant as a counterpoint to the constant stream of negativity directed towards this feature.

After getting my N810 I was really surprised at how much I liked the thumboard after reading about how most reviewers don't like it. It's perfect for the sarcastically listed points above.

I used my USB power injector with a USB keyboard at work and it was cool. However, that setup, or bluetooth, are NOT going to accompany me into coffee shops, onto the subway, etc. I want a small footprint otherwise I may as well lug around a laptop. From Thoughtfix's videos, the thumbboard looked pretty usable, what exactly is wrong with it?

(And I don't know if half of you guys live in a bubble and are coated in germ resistant plastic, but I don't want my greasy fingers all over my screen. After OS2006 was released with the full screen keyboard my 770 looked like a red light district window front.)

Hedgecore:
Nothing is wrong with the thumboard. Please re-read the original post & subsequent clarifications. I love the thumboard! Just the concept of a thumboard excites my gadget lust. After owning three successive Zaurus (Zauri?) I could not go back to a plain tablet. It was my greatest qualifier for paying twice the current price of a N800.

*long sigh*

I knew the sarcasm was a bad idea, especially since I have a difficult enough time using it in person. I just could not resist any longer.
