Can't play videos on Youtube etc. as apparently Javascript is turned off or I have an old version of Flash Player - well according t Youtube.

How can I find out what version of Flash I have? I would have assumed that the 810 would be configured already.

Flash will get disabled if you run out of memory, unfortunately nothing tells you when it's been disabled, that might be your problem.

Check Tools / Components and see if the "Shockwave Flash" box is checked.
