I am not a newbie and can pretty much find my way around the N800. I can use the shell, become root and do things in Linux and it all works but there is one thing that drives me crazy.

How do I see the files that are in the main memory of the tablet either with the shell or with gpe file manager? Where are they in the Linux file system? I can see my memory cards but not the built in memory.

I didn't know where else to post this nor how to search for this without getting too many responses to search through.

Sorry if this has been answered many times before.

Fred

AFAIK, everything in the / (root) system is stored in main memory, the SD cards being mounted at /media/mmc1 (external) and /media/mmc2 (internal).

Maybe I didn't ask my question correctly. When using the standard file manager there a folders named Documents & Images, etc.

I can't seem to find them in the / (root) directory. I can find the media/mmc1 & 2 directories.

I can also find files that are stored in /user/home which is where the standard file manager puts files if you don't put them in one of the names folders.

I am sure I am missing something simple.

Nokia-N800-44-4:~# ls -al /home/user/MyDocs/
drwxr-xr-x 7 user users 0 Nov 26 23:44 .
drwxr-x--- 27 user users 0 Dec 11 13:54 ..
drwxr-xr-x 4 user users 0 Dec 11 13:40 .documents
drwxr-xr-x 2 user users 0 Nov 1 13:21 .games
drwxr-xr-x 2 user users 0 Nov 27 20:35 .images
drwxr-xr-x 2 user users 0 Oct 3 16:06 .sounds
drwxr-xr-x 2 user users 0 Oct 10 14:56 .videos

these folders are hidden, you have to use "ls -a" to see them!

Hi. In the same way that Mac OS X hides the unix file system from users, the Maemo interface does too. You can still access the root filesystem through the shell, and if you want a graphical text editor that gives access to the whole filesystem and not just /home/user stuff, try PyGtkEditor (at least on 2008).

Hope that helps.

Aha, that makes sense.

Thanks,
