hi guys

i had been lusting after the n800 for a long time and finally bought it a week back and love it so far...have gotten pretty familiar with it, in large part thanks to this forum...

anyway - there is something that i am very keen to try and not sure if i can...

i have media streamer at home (dlink dsm-520) which is connected to my home theater system and accesses all my media files through tversity which is a media streamer...

is there any way that i can introduce my n800 into the equation, such that i am able to control the music playing on the d-link...almost like a remote control...

...i have no clue if this is completely far-fetched or something that is already possible....but any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated...

cheers!

No. It doesn't have an IR transmitter.
unless... you add one http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...p?t-11458.html
or your 'dlink dsm-520' has wifi or web access.

USB > IRDA adapters might work as well.

Can't you control your dsm-520 via a web interface ?
Another path to explore is the uPnP "controler" did you take a look at Media Streamer "a UPnP AV control point and player application." ?

looks like i need to work on my writing skills, as only fred seems to have got what i am asking for...

i do thank TheGogmagog & dblank for their response, but why in heaven's name would i want to control my dsm-520 using the IR method?? i do have a remote control for that...

...so just to clarify, i am looking to go down the upnp controller route...i did do some research and have found out that the media streamer application will do what i am looking for, but it appears that it doesnt work with os2008...is that correct? is there anything that works with os2008?

thanks!

Less clutter

I'd wait for this, or something else based on GUPnP:

There's also Cidero, but it needs Java.. so GUPnP is probably your best bet.

2nd that. Try Mediastreamer from Nokia themselves.

It seems the problem is my reading comprehension. My mind saw the header (which other users will see if they search) and thought I knew the answer. I then convieniently glossed over info that might have set me straight.

so for now, my understanding is that there is no way to do this. mediastreamer is a good option, but does not work on os2008 yet.

does anyone disagree?

Why doesn't mediastreamer work? library issues?
