On my laptop running Ubuntu I have a pretty big host file to direct ad sites to 127.0.0.1 here is an example

Code:
127.0.0.1 goldstats.net
127.0.0.1 www.goldstats.net
127.0.0.1 www.goodhealth-search.com #[Spamdexing]
127.0.0.1 google0.info #[Google.Warning]
127.0.0.1 www.google0.info
127.0.0.1 google9.info
127.0.0.1 www.google9.info
127.0.0.1 google-moogle.com #[Spamdexing]
127.0.0.1 www.google-moogle.com
127.0.0.1 www.google-hard.com #[Win32/TrojanProxy.Agent.LK]
127.0.0.1 google-pharmacy.com #[Spamdexing]
In ubuntu the host file is kept at /etc/hosts, does OS 2008 have a host file? Has anyone used this method of ad blocking?

For those looking for a host file look here.

I use the fakeweb and associated hosts package. This works fine on my n800 with both 2007 and 2008 os.

I use the host file from here on my desktop: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
I haven't tried it on my 770 because I don't surf that much.

Host file works fine BUT make sure you do not copy over the line that gives your device an id. This is most important if you upgrade your OS and then copy your old hosts file over the updated one.

If you do this, you will be unable to run the app manager application.

Please don't ask how I learned this.....
