I purchased the N800 mainly to listen to internet radio stations. The only ones I can get to work are the pre-loaded BBC stations. I have tried several which I regularly listen to on my pc but they do not work. For example http://860wgul.townhall.com/radioplayer/player.aspx

I really hope someone can help me get this working ... Is there additional software I need to install?

Thanks,
Jack

Your example is a Windows Media Audio (WMA) stream delivered via Microsoft Media Server (MMS) protocol. The standard media player in OS2007 doesn't support WMA, so you're out of luck there. OS2008 adds Windows Media support in the standard media player, but I don't know that it supports MMS. (EDIT: It does. See below.)

MPlayer may provide better support for WMA and MMS, but I wouldn't know. I don't use it.

EDIT: The standard media player in OS2008 does support MMS and works with this stream. It just can't parse the ASX file.

Try this link.

Here's how to get that link on your own:
  1. Go to the same page you provided as an example above.
  2. Locate where the page says, "Standard Player: Windows Media". It's in the upper right corner.
  3. Save the ASX file linked to by "Windows Media".
  4. Open the ASX file in a text editor, and copy one of the MMS URLs.
  5. Paste the MMS URL into the address field of a web browser.

Or you could go to http://www.shoutcast.com , pick the station you want to listen to and click "tune in", it will automatically launch the media player.

I did not find Capt Jack's given example, WGUL, on Shoutcast in a quick search.

Is this the same for me?

This is my stream: http://mediaweb.musicradio.com/playlist.asx?streamid=11

When I open it in a text editor I get:

<ASX version="3.0"><TITLE>2CR FM</TITLE><ENTRY ClientSkip="no"><TITLE>2CR FM</TITLE><AUTHOR>2CR FM</AUTHOR><COPYRIGHT>GCap Media</COPYRIGHT><REF HREF="http://mediasrv-the.musicradio.com/2CR"/><REF HREF="http://mediasrv-sov.musicradio.com/2CR"/></ENTRY><LOGURL HREF="http://medialog.musicradio.com/wmsiislog.dll"/></ASX>

I tried the link which sjgadsby suggested, it did not work on my N800 I get the error message 'Unable to open, Address type not supported.' then it gives a very long mms:// address..... However, I tried the link on my pc and it works fine bringing up the windows media player.

I did try some of the stations on shoutcast.com they work fine.

Another question, I tried stations on the Real Radio Guide
http://radio.real.com/?rnd=119790571...s-player=false
none of these work, so at this point the only stations I can get to work are the ones on Shoutcast. If there is anyway to get the Real Radio stations to work, that would be great!

Thaks for all the help...I really appreciate.

Just to be sure, are you still using OS2007 (that came with your N800) or have you installed the OS2008 beta?

In the new OS2008, Nokia has actually added a pretty extensive Internet Radio Directory, in the main media player app. They're organized by genre, and really good.

Here's a quick video walkthrough: http://www.tablet-guru.com/2007/11/o...nternet-radio/

Ah, well the link I provided won't work with the standard media player until you move to OS2008. It might work with MPlayer in OS2007, but I've never installed or used MPlayer on my N800, so I don't know.

Nokia should be releasing the non-beta version of OS2008 very soon. Once that's available, consider upgrading. The link I provided will then open and stream in the standard media player. (Assuming, of course, the radio station doesn't change the URL by then.) Just make sure any other applications you use in OS2007 are working well in OS2008 before you make your move.
