Thanks, that's a big help. Do you have any idea of what the different runlevels are? Could they be like the default debian ones? Is it in single-user mode by default?

It's not in single user mode it's just in multi-user mode with only one non-root user. 
By default it uses runlevel 2. I don't think there are any differences between different runlevels in the default setup. But (I bet) it would be really easy to get a runlevel editor from debian compiled and installed.
