Hi all! I`m a complete newbie to the N800 and am struggling with it to be totally honest.
I want to be able to use it to IM contacts that i have on MSN but i just don`t seem to be able to work out how to do it.
I am unable to access email unless i go to my ISP site and log in there and i`m not sure what Gizmo, Gmail etc is all about.
Any information on any of my problems would be greatly appreciated. Btw..it had OS2008 recently installed by its previous owner.

Thanks.......

Do you have a wireless connection? I am going to assume that's done, if not let me know and we'll back up a step.

First thing you want to do is open a browser and go here:

http://www.gronmayer.com/it/

Bookmark this page (hit the globe in the bottom left... etc)

You will use this page a lot! Make sure you are looking at the OS2008 page - it should be automatically selected. Scroll down to "Pidgin on Maemo" and click the green arrow. When it prompts to open/save, click "open". It will launch your Application manager - the "add/remove programs" of the Internet Tablet.

It should update all of the repositories automatically, (note, it may come up with errors since there's such a heavy load on the server these days. Keep trying).

Hit the "Browse installable applications" button and press "All" - you are looking at all the free apps you can get over the wireless connection. Scroll down to "Pidgin Internet Messenger" and install that. You may also want to install the default Smiley themes and the sounds too. I'm sure you'll find other things you want to install, too.

Once it's installed, play around with its settings, you should be able to add your MSN account and get chatting!

Well, my recommendation would be to wander on over to Jablet.net and go on over to their registration page and sign up for an account.

Jablet.net is a Jabber server which will work with the built-in Jabber client. Jabber has a neat little feature called "transports". What transports do is provide a way for the Jabber server (in this case, Jablet.net) to communicate with other IM services (in your case, MSN).

In order to user your new Jablet.net account with MSN, you first have to configure the MSN transport with your login info. As the Jabber client on the tablets doesn't have the ability to configure transports, you'll have to download some sort of Jabber program on your PC. I recommend Psi. After you download and install Psi, you'll need to login using your Jablet.net account and set up the transport for MSN.

After you set up the transport using Psi on you PC, you can go ahead and quit Psi and set up your Jablet.net accound on your tablet. Once this is done, it should load all of your MSN contacts automatically and you can start chatting right away.

Well, setting up e-mail is fairly straightforward. You simply need to enter the same sort of account information into the tablet's e-mail client as you entered into your computer's e-mail client. Somebody should be able to give you more detailed instructions if we have a little general information about your ISP.

The Gizmo Project is a service which allows you to call other Gizmo users and regular telephones (for a fee) from your tablet. It's a VoIP application very similar to Skype.

Gmail is Google's free e-mail service and is essentially the same as your ISP's e-mail service. It's not smoething you really need to worry about unless you have a Gmail account.

Probably you'll need some more clarification. So just post whatever further questions you have and we'll try to address them.

90mb might get you started, as long as the repositories are working.

Try wandering around town and scan for some open hotspots

Yep, you can't sign on your instant messenger services in more than one place. You'd have to choose one or the other.

You're better off registering for a second MSN account just for your tablet.
