I've installed modest and it works with my gmail account perfectly. and The first problem is that the mail notification is working fine, with one small snag: it launches the built in mail application and not modest. Is there a cure for this?
The second problem is the 'people' link also launches the built in mail app. Can I also replace this link?
And thirdly a self-inflicted wound: I picked the comms menu item to stick modest into so now have two menu items both named email and neither editable. Anyone know which file governs the menu and is it hackable?
[Forgot to say I'm fine with hacking text files, I've got several linux boxes at home and run a couple of solaris servers at work - and unless I need X I stick to vi and cli - I just don't know the layout of the file system on the N800 yet and again don't know which file controls what - is there a guide somewhere?]
You can't really replace it, yet. So tapping on the message will always open the default mail app.
Otherwise, though go to /usr/share/applications/hildon and edit modest.desktop. Change the Name= entry from mcen_name to something like Modest Email (quotes are not necessary).
