Just got my 770 (cor, it's gorgeous!) and because I'm networking via a bluetooth stick in a desktop PC, I'm trying this howto (http://blog.eikke.com/index.php/real..._770_over_blu). And I've manged to get myself in a knot with sudo. Can anyone help?

I'm following the instructions for becoming root from the MaemoWiki (http://maemo.org/maemowiki/HowDoiBecomeRoot). XTerm is installed OK, it flashes into R&D mode OK, and I did "sudo gainroot" OK. But then I screwed up editing /usr/sbin/gainroot and I've ended up with the following:

1) /usr/sbin/gainroot.nokia, a copy of the original gainroot.

2) /media/mmc1/gainroot, an edited version that doesn't do the "if R&D then..." logic, as suggested in the Maemo howto. I can't just copy that to /usr/sbin as I get "Unable to open /usr/sbin/gainroot: Permission Denied"

3) Whenever I sudo anything, I am asked for a password (just like I am on Ubuntu). I don't know what that password is!

So... how do I get my edited gainroot from the card into /usr/sbin and why am I being asked for a password when sudoing?

PS: The screen is absolutely stunning, isn't it?

The file /etc/sudoers sets what you can do with sudo. About the only usefui thing you can do is run gainroot. So if 'sudo gainroot' won't get you root then I reckon you're stuffed and will need to reflash.

Just my luck, had it five minutes and I've nearly bricked the thing! Ah well, lve and learn. Tooling around with a command line, Mrs Beeton's recipes for brawn and nethack on something the size of a paperback is too infectiously fun to make reflashing it a real grind (yet).

Right, reflashing. Would that be: ./flasher -c ?

Edit: Ah, found the .bin image on Nokia's site and applied it with Flasher. All is good now. Thanks
