I use N800 OS2008

3 batteris that I charge separetely and then I put them in the tablet and it works fine.

The problem is: when I try connectiong the recharger directly to the tablet, it does not recharge it and there is no sign the it is connected.
checking the battery ststus icon sying the time left and doesn't say "recharging" as it was before, the same happens when trying to recharge when the device is turned off, it just does nothing.

Anu ideas?

Thanks

Are you using the original charger supplied with the device? Aftermarket chargers and usb adapters might not have enough output to power the device up, or allow it to charge properly. I only ask because you say that you're using a desktop charger of some kind. Try the original charger if that's the case. I have a usb adapter that occasionally works, but depends on the host device and it's robustness of usb power. But the Nokia original car power cord works every time and is even better quality than my cell phone charger. Hopefully it's not the power jack in your device. Restart it after swapping batteries and see if that helps. Good luck!

FWIW My original Nokia charger failed after a month. I bought an Amazon endorsed aftermarket one and that failed too. So these items are flakey.

I hope your problem is something along those lines and not internal to the device.

I have the exact same problem with one of my N800's. Mine was self induced though by having the polarity wrong on a generic charger and plugging my N800 into it. Quoting GreyGhost from another forum "Electronics run on smoke, if the smoke gets out it stops working"

On my N800 this caused a small surface mount fuse to go bad. I ordered a replacement fuse and have it at home but have not replaced it yet to see if this was the only damaged part.

Not sure if if the cause of your problem is the same as mine but the symptons are the same.

These are very very tiny components and unless you have experience with soldering these small Surface Mount Components I would have some else do it. I have the schematic on my home PC and can get more info tonight if you need it.

I did this on my Zaurus, the charger was incorrectly marked!

Since then I charge my batteries externally in an eBay HK desktop charger and swap them out when need be.

Thanks all

I use only the charger I got from nokia with the machione. I used to be gteat till this problem occured.
for the dekstoop charger I use the same nokia original charger that I connect to it and thus I can charge the battery without the machine,
So I don't really understand what went wrong.....
