Those who use Google as a home page on their tablets had to contend with the large iGoogle page >> http://www.google.com/ig or the anemic Google mobile page >> http://www.google.com/m

Now, because of no doubt the millions of new users, Google provides a new iGoogle page formatted for the iPhone >> http://www.google.com/ig/i

It looks good and loads fast on our tablets.

Awhile ago we had a debate on itT about the iPhones impact on the Tablet. Some, myself included, felt that it would lead to more useful sites for the tablet and in the end a better user experience for all.

Well... I think this is a good example of what we meant.

Yes, iPhone-specific sites are often well suited for the Tablets too, a good compromise between wap-style mobile versions and ajax-heavy desktop versions.

In other threads I have mentioned the iPhone versions of Bloglines and Netvibes, which have been available for some time and fit the tablets perfectly (especially on EDGE dialup, obviously :-).

Ugh, not secure so no good for me.

When I don't want the full blown gmail I use:

https://mail.google.com/mail/x/?source=mobileproducts

Fast and secure and you can move into the desktop mode easily too.

Maybe we can find a secure version for the iPhone.

OK, got it. If you use my link above to get in while using the iPhone user agent string it will use the iPhone stuff and stay secure.

See this post

for the user agent.

G-Mail is the last app I use from the home page...

It is the tabs, gadgets, and bookmarks I find useful.

For instance, one tab is for weather and traffic and I stuck 4 of the anycam widgets on it to show the Traffic cams on my commute home (and they refresh every minute), another widget is for Doppler radar, and another is an RSS feed reader that shows live feeds of incidents on all the area hi-ways.

The beauty of the iPhone version is that not only do the widgets work but the interface allows you to expand or minimize each one to minimize page loads.

I have another tab set up called "away" for when I'm a stranger in a strange land. It has widgets for hotel reservations, city guides, flight departures, etc.

All in all, pretty dang useful.

Hell, for security you could set-up another account and use it just for the widgets.

This is a nice find, but I wonder if you can move some of them around..I tried messing about with the order in google.com/ig but it doesn't seem to affect the order they are displayed in the ig/i page. But I took your idea and made several tabs of pages, each with their own applets/widgets/whatever that I often will use around Maryland.

Edit: Also is there anyway to choose which page shows up first? Or do I just have to make that tab first?

It will mirror your iGoogle page on the PC, If you move 'em around on the PC they will change when you open the page on the tablet. I found no rhyme nor reason to it.
On mine, the tab that shows first is where it was when it was closed last...

That is, when you change the tab on the tablet then close it, it will be on that tab when you open the page on the PC... and vice versa.
