Hi,

I recently set up my gmail account with the built-in email app on my n800 running OS2008. After I got it set up, it was really slow to open the inbox and opening emails when they come in. I want to stop getting the email notifications (flashed in the bottom left corner), but I can't get the mail app to open. When I click/touch the mail app, it says, "mail opening", but nothing happens. Other times it will open, but it freezes up as I'm trying to get to the menu where I delete my account. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Thanks

I had this exact same problem last week. The built-in mail app can't cope with more than a few hundred messages in a folder from what I gather.

What I did was get a terminal up and delete the mailbox files manually. I can't quite remember where they were... /home/user/apps/email/Mail/ perhaps?

Guys, it's been widely discussed that the built-in mail app CANNOT handle Gmail's IMAP connection, so please be aware of this. Modest will handle it fine, as does Claws

Here's my suggestion: Go to offline mode, open the mail client, and when prompted to Exit Offline Mode, select no. Then delete the Gmail account from the account settings in your mail app. Works for me.

Don't give up hope yet. I had the same issues, and could only open the email app when I had an incoming gmail mail set off the notifier. I can post some details later, but in general, I found I had not set up the outgoing smtp, so the mail client was hanging.
It would still open and show the new messages, but unless you have the outgoing settings set (follow the google mail instructions (set outgoing for pop..) then you should see an improvement. I spent this morning getting mine working because I was sick of it.
That seems to have solved the failure to launch issue and now I can send out mail from the tablet through my gmail (my own domain)..See if that helps.
I believe we better get the onboard email working and understand it before we ditch it for a different tool. I know some people like other email clients, but try to get yours working first, then change. You can adjust or shut off the notifier after thats all squared away. PS. I'm in O8 O/s and the incoming mail is set to imap, and outgoing to pop. That was the solution.
