Hi,

First a basic overview about my experiences with wlans/connectivity and the 770.

1. the 770 is detecting a lot of wlan's (including the security mechanism used by the involved router/ap like none, wep, wpa, ...)

2. the 770 has to be located in the neighbourhood of an ap/router (compared with laptops with wifi connection); limited distance from ap/router; I have experienced a lot of examples where my laptop still has a good connectivity and the 770 lost it's connection already (however the 'W' is still there (and not blinking))

3. last, but most important issue (according to me); the 770 has a lot of problems with a number of routers / ap's (not all of course); even when wpa, wep, etc is disabled, even when the 770 is close to the router / ap, ... no connectivity is possible with a huge number of ap/routers, however the 770 is perfectly detecting the wlan, is perfectly detecting the type of security, etc ...

Therefore I would like to ask you what kind of traces I can take in order to provide nokia / developers the necessary information they require/ need.

So, what to trace and how to trace / how to take the appropriate log files, etc ? And second, maybe we should make a list of routers / ap's which work and which don't work (for the last ones we should be able to know if it's usefull to provide information, traces, logfiles, and if so, which info, traces, log files)

dmesg is probably an important one, but I guess there are more

Cheers, Jan

ps. but still, I am a happy user ;-)

A succesfull scenario of the dmesg trace is dumped hereafter.

Remark : the scenario hereafter is when the scanning, connection and disconnection are completely succesfull (in my case a Belkin Wireless router 802.11g)

1. Connect - searching

Code:
[ 225.203735] Loading 3825.arm firmware
[ 226.040863] CX3110x: MAC address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
[ 226.213287] No power saving
[ 228.798583] Scan complete, scanned 13 channels
[ 228.902832] No power saving
[ 229.463348] Scan complete, scanned 13 channels
2. Connect - selecting a wlan from the list

Code:
[ 1848.046997] We wake up for DTIMs

3. Select to disconnect

Code:
[ 1959.323638] tlv320aic23 powering down
[ 1972.997467] tlv320aic23 powering up
[ 1973.000549] tlv320aic23_init_power() done
[ 2042.942199] DEAUTHENTICATE trap
[ 2042.943206] Shut down SoftMAC
Note : probably this weekend I will be able to provide a dmesg trace of an unsuccesfull case.

Therefore I would like to know what else could be traced, logged, ...

Cheers, Jan

I think that you are experiencing the following bug:

https://maemo.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=329

Hi Jerome,

Thanks for the response, I have seen this bugzilla report also before. As far as I understand it's not really the same problem.

In the bugreport above they mention that they have a working connection, but that this connection drops all the time, after a number of seconds or minutes.

My situation is different, since :

- when I have a succesfull connection with a wireless network, this connection stays fine (no connection loss at all), BUT
- my 770 has the problem that - with some wireless networks - it cannot connect at all

Furthermore, I still asume that at least somebody (developer ?) could provide me with a list of things that should be provided in order to investigate this problem efficiently.

Cheers, Jan

Hi Everybody, this is my first post!
Your seems like my problem.
I have a Zyxel 660HW Router, and in my bedroom (where normally I use the 770 navigating and reading ebooks) are two WLAN (one mine and one from someone else).
Sometimes I have to disconnect a few times. The W is not blinking, but in the details windows I see 0 Bytes RX/TX!
This is VERY frustrating. I am thinking to try to change my router's radio channel, but I'm not sure if the problem is an interference from the other WLAN.
Just to let you know, if I try to connect to the other (protected) WLAN, the 770 simply reboot!

Any idea???

Thank You and sorry for my BAD English, but I'm from Italy.

If you really want to investigate this problem, there's nothing better than a sniffing log. Just put some wireless card in monitor mode, and start sniffing the packets while you 770 tries to connect to your AP. Then send this the sniffed log file to mameo's bugzilla.
