first and was unable to get it to show back up. was able to go into navigation and I could see where there was a light check in the box
(was not checked off) and could not figure a way to turn it back on so it would show in toolbar. I had been having the problems with it not wanting to restart if shut down, it always did by taking the battery out for a couple hours and then it was good to go so I just neve shut if off. I thought that I was in the clear when the battery had died on a couple occasions but it restarted with no trouble after charging. Now after losing the charging meter I still used it a couple days but I guess I did not check it often enought and battery went dead last night. I recharged overnight and no go, tried the 3 min bit. have taken the battery out for a couple hours. Any ideas? Is their andother sequence of keys that might work. Only had it 2 weeks but my laptop bit the big wiennie and I really need this for the next 3 days until my laptop is returned and then I was planning on unfortunatly sending it back for the switch problem. Any ideas would be a big help. Thanks, Steve

Hmm. I posted just last night in the Power On/Off Enigma thread that my battery icon had mysteriously disappeared. What I did was take the battery out, wait 10 minutes, then put it back in; this made the icon reappear and I was able to recharge the battery.

If I read your post correctly, you did not take out your battery at first, but continued to use the N800 while the icon was missing. Since mine would not charge properly while the battery icon was missing, I'm guessing yours didn't, either, and it was probably not really charging last night. This is all pure guesswork on my part, based on what I observed with my N800 last night, but I think you might want to try swapping out with a charged battery if you have one, to try to get that battery icon to come back.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix the problem if your battery is totally dead. I did some searching on the boards here last night, and only found one other post (from last summer) mentioning the disappearing battery icon, and no one came up with an explanation or solution. The poster did the same thing I did, pull the battery and then put it back in.

The only thing I can think of to suggest right now is try a search here on something like "dead battery" and see if anyone's come up with a way to give a dead one a little poke. You might also check some of the many threads about the power on problem, because I seem to remember seeing some pretty creative ideas in some of those threads.

Or you could do like I did when my previous N800 bricked, and run buy a new battery to try in it. Not cheap, but now I have a spare battery if I need one!

Thanks for the advise, I got another battery (salesman at radio shack let me try the one out of his cell which was charged) and it still did not power up. It is on its way back to buy.com right now. Just sucks that it will be at least 10 days before I cane even expect or hope to see a replacement. My laptop died last week and with that out getting repaired I am down to receiving my email via text message on my cell and whenever I am at someones house so I can use their computer. I have one at work that runs the wireless network server but it is in a unheated basement and is not supposed to be used for anything else. I work as a night watchman and hardest part of job is staying awake. Back to bringing books for a while! Thanks again for the advice, Steve

Thanks for the update...sorry the new battery didn't work, but now I know from your experience not to let my battery run down (at least, not when the battery icon is MIA). Hope the replacement works better for you!
