I've noticed when playing OpenTTD, when I tap on stuff the tablet sometimes registers the click somewhere else.

On several occasions, I've tapped a few times and then blinked as the side-bar pops up and then RSS Reader loads!

And then there was the disaster where I was performing a very delicate operation (Trying to un-gridlock a bunch of trains in OpenTTD ), and the mis-click caused me to miss the Stop bar, which allowed the train to crash into the one in front of it. That cost the (virtual) lives of over 900 people!!

I flexed the unit a bit, and noticed that there does seem to be something pressing the back of the LCD (If you tap the contacts (2nd icon down) menu, the pressure is centered around where the 'inbox' word, of the "View e-mail inbox" item)

Also, I am using one of those Boxwave Crystal-wotsits screen protectors (Despite my earlier genius, I can't get the bloody thing off to see if that is causing the problem! And I'm too scared of scratching the underlying plastic to try and scrape it off with something... )

I've never installed or played OpenTTD, but I've had this same problem on my N800 since upgrading to the final version of OS2008. When using the thumb board, a key other than the one I'm pressing will often highlight, and yesterday the application menu opened when I tapped the vertical scroll bar in a web browser window.

Bug #2784 appears to cover this issue.

The usual removing trick suggested many times in this forum is to stick part of an adhesive tape and pull it from the other part.

Me too. After installing OS2008 it seems that the phantom taps started happening. I was never sure if it was because dirt around the side of the screen or something else. But, now I see you guys agreeing with me. But, now what? Post it as a bug?

It seems there is no scientific criteria I can reproduce to cause the issue. Without that, it can be ignored as my digitizer going bad, or screen protector interfering, or just my imagination.

Well, considering the reports of people flashing back and forth between OS2007 and OS2008 and seeing a marked difference in tap behavior, I'd say odds are leaning towards being a software problem.

I experience the same issue, but I have been using 2008 since the day I got it.

I too have the exact same issue. I didn't have it in 2007 and it wasn't bad in the beta of 2008, but now it's horrible. I dread any time I have to type something these days on my N800.

I'm getting this too, and I'm not really in a position to send my N800 back into Nokia USA right now. Can other people try to keep track of how the behavior changes with temperature of the tablet, and post here? (ie, whether it's better when the tablet is warmer or worse) I'll share my results after a couple other people do. I don't want to influence people's thoughts, and make them see a correlation that's not there.

Just by the way it behaved before and after the OS2008 upgrade, and by how the posts are showing up on this thread, I would say that this is a software issue and hopefully will be resolved with a firmware update.

Yay!
(Hopefully... 'tho a firmware flash means I need to re-install all the software again doesn't it...? )
