*Update* Unable to duplicate results could have been a fluke

After having the imap Gmail problem on my tablet I searched the forms and found some were still having trouble with this.

To fix this you can download the headers correctly but when trying to view the emails it gets stuck in an endless loop.

Here are the account settings that worked for me

Basically what I had to do was for account name I placed my Email address and a second time in the name box. Lastly I set the outgoing settings to ssl and vola! it was able to download messages. Unable to send messages yet but I was at least able to read them.

Hya, mate

Why go to all that trouble with the default email client, when you have Modest (or even Claws-Mail) working with IMAP without any problems? Plus, problems sending has nothing to do with IMAP, rather the SMTP server

Really, try Modest and forget about the integrated email client. It has an history of not working well with Gmail's IMAP.

Modest is definitely better. I can't wait until it's the new default email client. Is there any way to force it as the default?

The IMAP-IDLE implementation is awesome, although I wish it were enabled when the Modest Inbox UI is not on. (It can auto-check every X minutes without the UI, but IMAP-IDLE doesn't work unless the UI is running.)

Gmail IMAP may work correctly now. I recently saw this article here.

It may be related to the problems on the IT.

Hi,

I used the default Mail client but it is crap!, I never figured out how to get it working with my Gmail account, even following the advice of our friend at the first post of this thread. Then I installed Modest, A LOT BETTER... I can use any IMAP server and I can use my Gmail accout, but, sice I using Modes for read my e-mails on my Nokia, I tried to open some e-mails and Modest says that it doesn't exist in the server. I opened my account using the browser and the mail was there, but then some e-mails disappeared or were archived, some one have a clue on what is happening?

Regards,

Taguapire.

P.D. I did not removed those e-mails nor moved to any folder

Is not related, because the crap... sorry, the included Mail client can read HTML e-mails without problems, but... you will see the html code too

Not a blank page.

Taguapire.

LOL Claws has worked flawlessly for me with IMAP. It's feature rich and is easy to use. All it needs is a bit more pub IMO.

Gmail through my own domain; Its just so odd,; I got a new email; the tablet alerted; and I could open and it looked beautiful (just usual spam).
I sent a test message and it went out with no problem. I tried to read the test message I received which was all of about 10 characters of text and the email hangs. I don't see what could be screwing this up. I'm sure its something simple. I'll keep trying..

Hey, don't get me wrong: I prefer Claws over Modest, too. I use it on every Linux installation I have, therefore also on the N800.

I just recommended Modest because it's pretty much the default email client... just evolved :P

And Claws still has some quirks in its Maemo form, sometimes it's a pain to open an email by double-tapping (it acts as if we're trying to move it to another folder).

But I do agree, all it needs is a bit more love on these boards

So, after all that was said and done, the built-in Mail app still won't play nice with Gmail, right?

Back to the drawing boards then.
