Today, on a hunch, I tried something different. Before, after formatting in camera or via PC, I always reformatted again with format tool in n800 file manager. It would seem to be at this point where the cards became corrupted. Today, after formatting via PC/usb, I attempted to create virtual drive without running a 2nd n800-based format ... and for the first time since upgrading to 2008 I was able to create the swap file. I am also now able to copy large numbers of mp3 files to cards.
I can only conclude from this that the n800/2008 format tool is somehow broken.
Can anyone confirm this behavior? At some point I will reformat internal card again with format tool and see if it 'breaks' the now working card.... but can't do this until I'm certain I'll have access to a PC to fix again if neccessary.
Note: 125mb card did not have problems.. only the larger sized cards.
