Too embarrased to hijaack the slocate thread with my popup picturebook grep tool (analogy), ill just mention it here.

I built searchmonkey which is a graphical grep utility which recursively searches files containing certain text patterns you are looking for.

Works pretty good, does the job, but is slightly cramped and some tabs don't fit well. When searches are done, if it found results, toggle 'search criteria' toolbar button to toggle visibility of results.

For composing file filters (regular expressions) user advanced tab to help create the regular expression filter.

Its 273k and just one more utility which might be useful to some... if you intend to search hidden configuration files, uncheck the 'ignore files beginning with '.' checkbox in the options tab
