im having the problem of the box character appearing before most of my album , artist , and track titles now for some reason , ive checked all my tags and i have no odd characters at the beginning. im running beta 5-maemo2 on my N810. how can i get rid of this and get it to display as it should? the built in media player reads the tags correctly. i know this was brought up in another thread but it seemed to be a different circumstance and there was no answer. any ideas?

This happened to me on only one album when I upgraded to Beta 5. Perhaps not coincidentally, it is the one album that the cover art scanner could not locate a cover for (a Chesky recording of Beethoven's 9th.) For some reason it has also decided that the first movement is on a separate album (also beginning with the square).

Sorry, not really an answer for you, but at least it is another piece of information that might be helpful to your or to the developers.

This is fixed on Beta5~maemo3 (available on maemo extras repository).

IMPORTANT: To remove the "Box Character" you need to uncheck all folders in Media Library / Audio Folders and re-check again. This will cleanup all songs from your database.

1) Go to Settings Menu (Click on the Settings Icon in main menu)
2) Media Library
3) Audio Folders
4) Uncheck ALL folders (click in the eye to remove the check mark)
5) Back to main menu (you will see the "Updating Database" message)
6) Back to settings and re-check the Audio Folders
7) Back to main menu.
8) Done

Let me know if this works for you.

Hmmm... that did not work for me. But to be fair, I have not yet checked that my tags are not corrupted. They were fine before one of my Canola upgrades (either Beta3 or Beta5.)

It does seem that canola does not recognize the "album artist" field anymore. I went and changed all the "artist" fields of my various artist cd's to "various artists" and now everything shows correctly. i dont like the new tool to do the compilation albums with , i prefer it say "various artists" rather than "compilation"....lol im anal as hell about how my tags/filenames are displayed if youve ever read any of my previous posts regarding the subject LOL

Hi Munky,

Actually it was a small bug that we are already testing the fix. there's a total of 4 possible tags, we got only 1, so now we support the 4 possibilities. A maemo3 update will be uploaded soon.

Thanks for the tip

Marcelo

saw the maemo 3 update tonight. installed and then tried unchecking and rescanning music folders. that did the trick! no more box characters. thanks!!!

ot-still cannot get ogg files working, but will tackle that some other day, maybe after beta... glad to see the recent addition of support for streaming mp3.
