I'm looking for an input method for japanese kanji mainly for dictionary lookups and learning.
The story so far
While tomoe is not yet there I managed to get kanjipad on my tablet.

Are there any other solutions to this problem? I found that zaurus type platform has such software like KanjiNirvana
http://nihongonirvana.sourceforge.net/kani1/kani.html

Although it is qt based I don't know how if at all possible to compile against qt4.

Please share your findings and possible solutions.
I'm sure I'm not the only one interested.

you can compile against qt3 ... just use headers and libs from your main pc install or use the ones provided by penguinbaits great KDE-package ... (thanks again to tz1 for that info)

however, I already ported qbedic and ztenv, but I just can't get scim to work with QT-input ... please keep me informed if have success with that ... I don't like to use ebview ... I want my ztenv :P

I've just tried to get kanjipad on my N810 but to no avail. First Application manager said it was an incompatible package, then when I tried "dpkg -i kanjipad_2_0.0-6_armel" 9after becoming root) it seemed to install but I can't find the app anywhere.

I have previously tried Anthy but it disabled the Fn and shift key which made emailing the author pretty difficult.

you can compile it by yourself ... or just use the armel-package from the debian-rep'S ... however I think you also need libXinerama1 ... I guess you can just use the armel-deb from the same repos too ...

as those packages are not intent to be installed on the n8x0, there won't be any entry in the menu ...

just open xterm and run "kanjipad" to start the application ... if that works fine you can add a menu-entry ... please look at the tutorials available on www.maemo.org

if you have further questions ... don't hesitate to ask ...

Regards
