How do I install the file package for libfribidi0 or any other file package that requires .gz or .tar file types?

I am trying to install mplayer with little luck.

Please note that I am a newbie. I have a N810 os2008. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried installing Mplayer by clicking on the arrow on maemo.org's Mplayer page?

I forgot to mention that I have located the libfribidi0 file at the following ulr but I'm anot sure if this is the right one in the first place. Is there a better location to find this file and if so howdo I install it?

eh. "apt-get install libfribidi0" worked fine in terminal for me. you need to be root to run that.

1. So do I use X-Terminal to be in the root dir? If so could you show me the exact syntax to do that?

and

2. I noticed that my internal memory card on the N810 is read only. How can I delete files that I put in there to free up space?

Wow, I guess I will have to repair my N810. I have an N800 which I gave to my wife and bought myself the N810. I have installed lots of software on her N800 with no problems at all including mplayer, mytube, and lots more however, when trying to install the same software on my N810 I get a downloading failure error. Could this be due to the corruption issue with the internal 2gb memory? That would explain the weird downloading failure errors I have been getting since only a couple of days ago. I have been installing software in the n810 without problems before then. Or could I have another issue?

Yes. A recent thread covers how to repair the internal memory.
