Hi
I have a new n810, and have updated it to the latest version of OS2008 via the updater at Nokia. I have also tried searching the forums here, also the net, yet found nothing that helps. I hope someone here can shed some light on the following:

Generally the browser seems to work OK otherwise, but....

I can log in to Yahoo, get to the Inbox, but whenever I click on a link to actually open an email there absolutely nothing happens. there's the hourglass indicator, but otherwise nothing. I have checked that I have Java enabled, and have also tried with and without SSL2....still nothing. I can also get to the compose email page, but clicking "send" also does nothing. Any clues anyone?

Also, when I click on (almost) any of the google links on the start menu that are there by default, the only one that actually completely loads a full page is the Blogger link (though it seems that the "new post" button then seems to do nothing, so blogger is still useless). All others just hang till I get very bored, usually with just a blank screen to look at.

To complicate matters, I called Nokia Tech Support this AM about the above. He told me that the updating process I'd used ( http://europe.nokia.com/A4305010 )was just for European tablets, not for mine, therefore bad.......and that if I was able to log in to a site, like Yahoo, that subsequent failure was something between the site administrator and me, not Nokia's fault.
Is this the correct updating process, and is/was he basically correct. Seemed ridiculous to me at the time.

Hi,

I don't think I will be able to help you with your yahoo e-mail problem, but for your information, I used the same Nokia website to upgrade my N810, it is the only website available. Prior to my upgrade I was unable to install skype, it worked fine after the upgrade. I use my yahoo and yahoo mail extensively, never had a problem except typing in an e-mail adress in the "To" line, it remains blank no matter what I do. If I load an e-mail address from the contact list, it works when sending, but it does not show in the "To" line. There seems to be some issues with using the N810 with yahoo mail. I could only recommend you try to reload the upgrade.

As an additional note, I also use AOL mail, which works fine, I even was able to set up the installed e-mail client with AOL Imap. I am not using Google, so I cannot help you with that. Overall, I am pleased with the performance and features of the N810, even though there are some issues. I guess, nothing is perfect.

How are you connecting to the net? Tethering or wifi. Could be a DNS problem with ISP. I know T-Mobile had this problem a while ago but if you don't use their DNS server it would work.

I use wi-fi only, my cellphone provider is T-Mobile, but I don't subscribe to their data service. However, I think that if you are able to connect to the net, you should be able to work with yahoo e-mail.

open xterm and ping www.google.com it should resolve the dns and give you an IP for google and ping it once before it yells at you that you are not root. if it doesn't give you an ip then it sounds like a dns problem.

you can also try going to http://64.233.167.104/ that should be google's ip. if that works then your connection is fine but again it is a dns problem.

i just say dns problem because i had the same issue before i could access like every other site except google and it was a problem in the dns server.

I'll put my personal opinion in here that the so called tech support was a few pennies short of a dollar. There is no region specific OS, and for the record my N810 came loaded with an older version of OS2008 and the home city was set to London, UK. I know that is not much of proof for anything, but I have done the update and believe 100% the update process from the european nokia site is the only OS.

Always go with your gut, and it was already telling you this information seemed ridiculous
