Ok so for my work i may end up needing to make an image that will basically have several things installed but i will be able to use the flasher still so for example i make something in python and everyone needs it on the flash i could have it in my image.

You can find info on maemo.org wiki about cloning the system. Just tarball it up tar -xvpzf instead. Take this tarball to your desktop machine, and untar it. You can then use this rootfs to create a new .jffs2 file that you can flash.
