Ok ... The net is a key selling feature for me granted & I would not have a interest in it if it could not ... But can someone tell me just what else you can do with it or what YOU do with it other than use it to check email and go online ? ?

Seriously, I personally like these devices for their good VoIP SIP support (don't care much about skype really, I mostly use SIP). Very important if you live abroad and want to call your family in another country. Saves money. I use SIP providers o call my family in Greece regularly.

as it stands I've got 20 movies, 35 tv shows, 400 songs on it. I've got 40 E-books on it using FBreader. I'm using Gpe for syncing my calender, to do list and contact list. I'm listening to internet radio connected to my Griffin Amplifi. I've purchased the GPS routing software so I'm using it for routing without having to carry a separate unit. I use google docs for word processing and I've been playing Quake on it, plus I've been using skype on it for cheap phone calls.

Um... that is a big "woop".

There are very few places or sites I can't access with it. It finds connections and displays content pretty dang well. And the battery lasts a reasonably long time while doing it.

Go online? I assume you mean web surfing, as some of the "other" things I do do involve being online.

I can cut my cell minutes in half by using GrandCentral and Gizmo ( or skype ). I use canola2 to watch ( and download ) youtube videos. Don't forget that you will be browsing the web long after all of your friends iphones have run out of juice.

All these functions are achieved with ZERO hacking and with single click installs directly from the device.

Personally, I think the best thing about the n8x0 series is that it's running on a real Linux system. Plenty of devices out there let you go on the internet and check your email, but if you're looking for a pocket size computer that gives you the freedom and power of an open source linux OS under the hood, the selection gets much more narrow. This allows me to, for example, install BASH and do some scripting to help me out with administrating other computers. Also, I think the open platform gives developers a lot more options on how they would like to go about building applications for the system. My porting attempts so far to the device have been a pretty good experience. Seems to me if you're not using the n8x0 for its linux features, you're missing out on a lot of the value of owning the device.

Other than geeky linux stuff and computer admin tasks, I use mine for taking notes in class, word processing (google docs), keeping up with news (google reader), playing music/video (both on the device and controlling other players remotely), playing games, reading ebooks, and much more.

One of the most useful things about the device that I've found is how long the battery lasts even if it's connected to a wireless network all day. Since I have access most places I go, including all over my campus and where I work, my friends and co-workers can send a message directly to me no matter what I'm doing and I can respond in the time it takes to take it out of my pocket.
