I've been attempting to map drives on my main PC, which runs Vista. The computer shows up in File Manager (Shared Folders), but I get "(no files/folders)"
I've tried pretty much everything (insuring guest account is enabled, all shared folders have appropriate access, etc) but no go!
I can see shared folders on another XP machine, and all my PCs share files between Vista & XP with no issues.
I can also rdesk into the Vista PC from my N810.
Any help, hints or suggestions are greatly appreciated - help me save what is left of my sanity!

Dude, I totally have the same problem. I have 2 Vista Machines that I cannot access on my N800 in the file manager. I even went so far as to completely format and reinstall Vista on one of the machines to no avail. I am able to access XP shared folders but no Vista . Well, I guess that's just part of the "wow" of Vista.

What I don't get is why my other XP machines can see the folders, but not the N810. Does it have something to do with not being able to assign the domain in the N810?
Arrrgggg!

First thing's first - you can't access password protected directories - it all has to be guest access.

If they are non-password protected, then it MAY be the same old CIFS like issue cropping up with NTLMv2. I had similar problems trying to see my NSLU2 drives.

Try this: http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS4434907782.html

Click "Start -> Run." Then, type in the Run field: "secpol.msc." That will bring you to Vista's security policy system. Once there, use "Go to: Local Policies > Security Options" and then find "Network Security: LAN Manager" authentication level. Once there, change the Setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM -- use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated."
If secpol doesn't do the trick see if it's been changed in the registry:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/147706

If this fixes it can you add an entry to the Wiki in the relevant location please

yabbas,

Great suggestions, tried them, but unfortunately it did not work. I tried changing a few other settings in the secpol.msc file, but no go.
As far as I know, I don't have any password protected shares, how would I confirm this?
Any new suggestions are appreciated!

As a further detail, my Axim x50v pocket PC seems to map the vista drives with no problem, so I am really puzzled...

I have the same problem. The N810 maps the network drives on a PC running Windows XP with no problems. However, not so with a PC running Vista. I took 'yabbas' suggestions from an earlier post, but no luck.

I put all of my Vista sharing settings at the lowest possible security level. Still, no luck. (This Vista machine is so wide open that a guy driving by our house at 90 miles an hour running a Radio Shack TRS-80 can see all my files.)

i have never been able to get this to work, XP or Vista. But my shares are all password protected. I think it's pathetic that we still don't have an solution for this in the OS. What is nokia doing over there? playing nintendo Wii or something? This platform is going to die...if it hasn't already, before it takes off due to bad support.

I'm not running vista. But I've had good luck with wizard mounter mounting password protected shares in XP... Have you tried it yet? If not it's here at the garage-http://garage.maemo.org/projects/wizard-mounter/

I'd try setting up an SMB share in wizardmounter using your vista username/password and see what happens... (should appear under Remote_Filesystem under the device name in File Manager if successful...)

Cheers,

[edit] I had an issue where cifs.ko wasn't loading automatically. I added-

insmod /lib/modules/current/cifs.ko

to /etc/init.d/rcS to fix...

Yes, the wizard program. Thanks for the tip, but I can never get this r34 kernal nonsense installed. Which bring me to my next beef with this nokia, Why is installing things on this device so over complicated? if a program needs a package in order to install...INSTALL IT! just DO IT! Go to the web and get it! lol
