Here's a report on a silicone skin case that I just bought. The key features are that the quality is fine and the price is extremely cheap. The case has been reported on before; it fits my N800 like a second skin. I got a new one because the old one (more than a year old) developed a slight tear. You can buy this skin from a well-known supplier here in the US for about $30, probably not including shipping.

But I got this for $8, including shipping, from Hong Kong.
Here is the web site:

This site proports to be for wholesale sales, but they sold me one case, no problem. They have a lot of other inexpensive stuff that looks good.

The shipping took a long time, about a month. But I didn't care.

Yes, I could have buried this information at the end of some long case thread.

No, you have to forego the kickstand. This company also gives a choice of colors. I forgot to specify, and they sent me gray, which is what I wanted anyway.

Edit: I see that they have a battery that looks like a BP-5L Nokia knockoff with some of the same design work on the front. The price is $4.47 in quantity, but if you just want one, the price goes up to a massive $4.99.

Here is the page for that:

I think I will buy a couple.

geneven, why do you use the silicone case at all? What does it do for you? (Somehow those questions sound like I'm skeptical or down on them. I know nothing about them, and I really wonder what the purpose is, why people like having them on their NITs.)

Good question. A few reasons:

1. I like to drab out my N800, because I am sometimes paranoid about people on metros and other places thinking I'd be a good person to rob. The grey case I now have makes the N800 quite nondescript.

2. The case gives a certain measure of protection against spills or scratches. In my pocket, for example, the area that could be scratched by car keys is reduced a lot.

3. Most importantly, a little rubberization adds a tremendous amount of protection against being dropped because it makes the N800 slightly bouncy.

4. The N800 has a tendency to slide. If you set an N800 on a slippery desk or on the metallic surface inside or outside a car, it only takes a slight nudge or bounce to send it off an edge. If you have the N800 covered with something rubbery, it tends to stay where you put it.

For whatever reason, the case is loose around the top and bottom of the n800's screen. Any hints on how to load the n800 in so the case is snug, or did I just get a bad one (or screwed it up so it is bad already )? If it helps, I've been loading it from the right first (with the four speaker slits) as I'm afraid to tear that side if I load it second.

I have had a silicone case (black) for my N800 for about a year. I love it! I removed the "kick stand" and cut out a slit for the USB port. It has never slipped out of my had.

Unless you prefer to pay $5 for it, in which case there are several sources that will give you the same thing.

It's hard for me to believe you got the same skin as I have, because there is no ambiguity in how it loads and there is no alternative way of setting it up and it makes no difference if you pull it from the right or left and it would be extremely difficult to damage it no matter how you put it on. It might not be totally snug, but it is snug enough.

Where did you get it?
