I've been waiting to buy a N800 for awhile now but in the meantime I’ve been wondering about Quiver. I’m a hobby photographer and was wondering what are the viewing times if I were to insert a SD card of full size pictures (8-10MP jpegs). I’ve read in some reviews the times are slow for the program to resize the image for the 800x480 screen. Does anyone know roughly the time it takes to load an image and to zoom in/around, what about the thumbnail viewing speed, and going from one image to another in terms of seconds/minutes?

How does it compare to canola for speed of viewing.

I have a 810 and quiver is faster than canola for images.

Quiver is really incredible. I routinely use my n800 to backup photos from my camera. Each picture is 8MP and about 3.8 to 5MB. When opening a folder of pictures in quiver it takes about 15 seconds for the program to produce the thumbnails and then from there switching from photo to photo is nearly instantaneous with about an additional second or two for the photo to come into focus. Zooming is a bit slower, perhaps about 4 seconds per step up.

I also love Canola but it is not really comparable to quiver for photo viewing.

Edit: Ha, just noticed that if you zoom in full screen using the hardware buttons on top it is nearly seamless and instant...cool!

Thank you for the replies. I was debating on getting an additional back up storage device with viewing capability but the N800 with large SD cards will be a much better deal since I'm planning on getting one already.

I have noticed that with large pictures the speed is visibly worse if the SD card you happen to use in your camera is a slow one (or if it's MMC).

Yes, good point. I should have mentioned that I am using SDHC at 6MB/s which is the fastest you can get at the moment... If you are using an SD at, say 2MB/s max, you will experience lag due to sd card...

Welll.... Class 6 is the fastest class you can get; there are no definitions above class 6, so it's possible to have substantial variation in class 6 cards. So a particular class 6 card is not necessarily even near the fastest.

How many pictures do you have in a folder? I'm looking at approximately 100 images per folder produced by the camera.

That's for a folder of about 150 photos.

Also I should mention I am using patriot SDHC cards... I find them to be fast, reliable, and cheap.
