Is Nokia truly discontinuing the N800??

Unless they can quickly drop the N810 to the same price point, I think it's a big mistake....

There's no absolute proof it's been completely discontinued.

It seems to be disappearing from most on-line vendors and distributors here in the US. Nokia's web site also says 'not available in your location'. A Nokia rep I got on the phone wouldn't outright say it was discontinued, but they didn't think they'd be getting any more in and offered me a deal on the N810 instead.

I'd like to think the N800 will be sticking around at a low price point, but all evidence seems to be pointing to the contrary.

It's going, going, gone. Nokia hasn't officially said it's discontinued, but if it looks like a duck...

My point is directly to those claiming absolutely that it has been discontinued, ie, speaking on the company's behalf. I don't take issue with the speculation, and don't disagree with the logic-- just the specific unofficial "spokespersons".

I did not claim absolutely. What I said was “looks like it is on the way out”!

Expansys says “Availability: Discontinued
This product has been discontinued, the information below is for reference purposes only”
The Expansys statement applies to both USA and UK. As a major specialist retailer shouldn’t they should be in a position to know? What makes you think that you know more than Expansys? I get it, even if you did you couldn’t tell us, right? Why am I so sick of hearing that, I wonder.

Furthermore it is not currently available to be purchased direct from Nokia in a number of territories including USA and Ireland.

Anyway, when did Nokia formally announce that it had discontinued the N770? I missed that declaration, where’s the absolute proof that it's been completely discontinued ?

What game are you exactly playing, Texrat? Do you consider it your duty to tell everyone that the N800 has not been discontinued? Earlier this year, when the stocks were already running low in Europe but the US still had inventory, you were posturing that the N800 had not been discontinued and that Nokia would keep the 2 devices in parallel, to have 2 tablets at different price points. Just a few weeks after that, the N800 was out of stock at all European Nokia stores. Now it is out of stock at most US stores.

To put everything in context, you also claim to have contacts at Nokia and to have some direct information, but usually under some form of NDA.

I regret to have to say this, but considering that the N800 is now out of stock about everywhere on the planet, it looks like you are not telling us the truth.

The interested reader can check the whole story by using the search function of the forum on your i.d. The interested reader can also check whether or not the N800 is still available in European Nokia stores.

Mouse in your pocket, Rebski? I didn't name you, and wasn't referring to any of your comments that I've seen. If you didn't commit the offense, then no need to jump, right? And I'm not gonmna address your rank sarcasm and antagonism, sorry... that's beyond old.

Take a chill pill yourself, Jerome.

I'm under no obligation either way on this topic. I'm simply trying to point out specifics. You don't speak for the company, yet you acted as if you did when you replied to the OP that the N800 is certainly being discontinued. This implies you have direct knowledge. If you do so, fine: then I call your bluff. Where does it come from? And I don't mean the trail of evidence cited-- absolute statements require hard proof, not just a preponderance of evidence.

Others, like Rebski (who got a bit carried away in his reply above), are simply using deductive reasoning to hazard a guess. That's cool. But a big difference between that and your post.

As for my credentials, they're readily available in scattered posts here, and I don't feel an overwhelming urge to prove who I am or what I know at the moment, sorry. Suffice to say my involvement with the internet tablets goes beyond "contacts" and "NDAs".
