So I just downloaded Maemo Recorder, and I was testing all the recording formats. When I tried recording with iLBC, all I heard was static - almost like radio static. So then I tried recording in that format while not talking, and I still heard the static. I looked up online what iLBC is, and it's basically a VOIP recorder. Could I be hearing people's Skype calls or something? I also hear these strange sounds in offline mode o.O

No, you're not listening to Skype. It's a codec suitable for VoIP; but it has nothing to do with transport.

Maybe it just doesn't work right...

I had that once too, I don't know what I did to fix it. 1) Are you on OS2008? 2) Uninstall and re-install 3) It might make ambiant sound sampling at the beginning of recording, try it while speaking in conversational tones.

I don't have any problem with iLBC except that I need to unmute the speaker before recording (I don't know if this is also needed for the other formats).

I don't know how you replay iLBC files, but the only way I've found is to use Maemo Recorder itself (and to convert an iLBC file into another format, I use a cable to the input line of my PowerMac and Audacity to record the sound!).

Vinc17,

You can use this other method without using your hardware input audio cable:
